Apptelligence has done several surveys within different companies to see how many computer systems remain powered on during non-business hours. Based on this information we have concluded that between 17 and 28 percent of all computers remain powered on at the surveyed companies.
You can understand the considerable hidden costs that are concerned when we look at these figures.
The following table will give more information about this in depth:
- Columns 1 and 2 contain different computer configurations with their idle power consumptions. (source: Minatica)
- Column 3 contains the amount of non-business hours during a month. Daily from 20:00 till 08:00 and the full weekend. A month has been set on 4.3 weeks.
- Column 4 contains the number of KWH spilled energy in a month. (source: Minatica)
- Column 5 and 6 contain the minimum and maximum Dutch power rates. (source: Eneco)

If costs are calculated per year with the figure of 22.5% computers still powered on unnecessarily, then the potential cost savings are very attractive!

There are several variables in each company. The electricity tariff, the number of workable hours in a day and the percentage of computers not turned off are some of them.
Using our historical figures it shows that managing this process could give a reduction of 28.83% of your electricity costs! These are only the costs related to the enabled computers. Indeed, there are also costs involved in cooling the building because of the heat development of all these computers, the abridged life of the computers that run continuously, and security risks that may arise because computers are not properly equipped with security patches and antivirus updates.
The final cost savings could therefore be a lot higher!
We invite you to take this picture for your business to materialize. You can then use the ROI of your company to decide whether you want to deploy Apptelligence's Green Office.
